As founder of the company Gerty van Styrum started her career in advertising in Amsterdam. From 1993 until 2001 she lived in Hong Kong and Shanghai, where she started her own firm. In this period Chinese contemporary art was just emerging at the few galleries that Shanghai had in those days. Her interest in art increased over time and connections were made with upcoming artists.
In 2001 she moved back to Holland where she organized various exhibitions under the name LotusArt with exciting new Chinese artists.
In 2012 she started Brush and organized the exhibition “400 Women” in an old sugar factory near Amsterdam. This travelling exhibition by UK artist Tamsyn Challenger is based on the many missing women in the drugs related area of Ciudad Juarez in North Mexico. The exhibition was well received and got huge press coverage on TV as well as in the large daily newspapers. See for more information the “400 Women” link below.
Various exhibitions and art events followed. In 2014 Gerty moved back to Shanghai, where she continues her art related work. Brush works with only the best freelance staff that is personally selected by us.
